For actual parameters, you can reduce FRACK and RESPTIME (sorry for using TNC2- speak but more people can relate to it) such that RESPTIME is slightly bigger than the time taken to send MAXFRAME packets and FRACK is slightly over twice this amount (to allow for MAXFRAME coming back and the RR frame). If you have a *really* good dedicated link then you can try MAXFRAME larger than two, but watch the throughput and be prepared to tweak it until it works best. The level 3/4 stuff is probably best left alone, especially if you need to interact with a 1200baud network, because the delays in that network will still be fairly significant. >Another thing -- TheNet X-1J allows the use of MTU's larger >than 255. Is this an advantage to TCP/IP users, and in >particular 9k6 baud use, where the increased packet sizes >could increase thruput? > Depends..... there is a warning about dire consequences of increasing the MTU so if you do it, be prepared for some interesting results! Note that all of the above is applicable to (half duplex) links of any speed, not just 9600 (Full duplex is another matter entirely!) Basically, take them as a starting point and experiment for the best results. After all, that is partly why we are playing radio! Practically, I found the Cavallier reasonable RF quiet. Fiat Uno, too noisy. Diesels are definately better, they have a bigger battery too. However, I think there have been a bunch of beta versions between yours and mine. I searched my disk for a zip file, but I don't seem to have it now. I was reading through the manual for one of the TNCs (DRSI DPK-2), and it talks about a DCD board option that basically goes inbetween the TCM3105 chip and its socket. Having DCD has shown itself to be nice with the Software DCD that the KPC-3 TNC does. I have problems with Intermod and frontend overload problems, etc. Without having to buy the board itself, are there plans on how to build this DCD unit? And, would anybody know if it would work on Baycom modems built around the same chip. -- WORK: lawrence@combdyn.com | PHONE 403 529 2162 | FAX 529 2516 | VE6LKC HOME: dreamer@lhaven.uumh.ab.ca | 403 526 6019 | 529 5102 | VE6PAQ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Praxis BBS - 529 1610 | CYSNET BBS - 526 4304 | Lunatic Haven BBS - 526 6957 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- disclamer = (working_for && !representing) + (Combustion Dynamics Ltd.); ------------------------------ Date: 17 Mar 94 19:16:37 GMT From: news-mail-gateway@ucsd.edu Subject: SWEDEN CALLING DXERS To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu Subject: Time:1:15 PM OFFICE MEMO SWEDEN CALLING DXERS Date:3/17/94 Please god, no more "Media Scan SWEDEN CALLING DXERS" on Ham Digital! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Mar 1994 03:28:20 GMT From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!library.ucla.edu!csulb.edu!csus.edu!netcom.com!henrys@network.ucsd.edu Subject: TMS320 DSP Eval Kit To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu If anybody has a Ti TMS320 DSK evaluation kit that they want to sell, EMAIL me please.
